This Saturday, March 27, Han Dol will be hosting a Tai Chi Class instructed by Dee Calvey. The gentlest of the martial arts, Tai Chi is a solo exercise best described as "moving meditation." It is practiced in slow circular patterns, the primary goal being increased ease of motion. QiGong (Chi Kung) is much like Tai Chi, however the movements are done in repetition with the emphasis on energy cultivation for health, vitality and internal power. While many people practice one or the other, it is most beneficial to do both because they complement one another. Tai Chi has been officially endorsed by the Arthritis Foundation as a form of treatment.
Improved stress reduction, balance, agility for all is the focus of Tai Chi. Studies among older adults show exercise programs that challenge balance can reduce fall rates by as much as 17%. The most recommended exercise for fall prevention is Tai Chi because of its balance criteria.
Saturday's class is free to all, so come try it out and bring your family! Regular classes begin on Wednesday, May 12.
