Tuesday, July 5, 2011 – This past weekend marked a proud moment for one of our students, as well as for the school as a whole. Carey Depuy received her Cho Dan promotion, which was also the first Cho Dan promotion for the Han Dol school since it opened in 2007. As explained by Choi SBN at the conclusion of the promotion ceremony, the advancement of a practitioner to Midnight Blue belt is both a beginning and an end for a student's training. The Gup ranks are behind Carey, as she looks forward to rededicating herself to training as a Dan Belt. Master Choi smiled as he told those attending that he expects many students will follow her example.
Carey began training at Han Dol Martial Arts as an Il (First) Gup - Red Belt with two stripes - in April of 2010. She and her sister Burke began their training in 2005 at Kirby's Tang Soo Do, but they transferred to Han Dol when that school closed. Carey performed a Red Belt comprehensive test on January 21 as part of the scheduled Han Dol Gup test. She then continued preparations and tested with three other students from US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation Region 1 on May 14.
Those of us who have trained with Carey for the past 15 months were very excited to support her during the process of Dan Belt preparation and testing. Congratulations, Carey!
